HB ARTIST INSIDER: DJ KING CYRUS

For the past two years The Ladies of HB have been rocking with DJ King Cyrus on our Annual Stop the Violence Program.  No one really knew this tall slim dude that we were introducing but, once he worked his magic on the turntables, they became more interested in who he was.  It has been a pleasure working with Cyrus and means even more that he feels its one of his biggest accomplishment in 2014. Cyrus has done many major events and stood next to some of the biggest stars in the world. Yet, he feels none of those events compare to seeing people from across N.C. come together and stand against the biggest problem in the country, senseless killings. Its really touching due to the fact Cyrus comes from a place where young black teens are dying daily.
Cyrus can be heard on multiple radio stations breaking out new artist. He is always on social media offering ways for new artist to get their music heard. His blend mix tapes are available on multiple mix tape and on the streets of NY. With influences such as DJ S&S, DJ Ty Boogie, and DJ Ron G to look up to,
its no surprise that his mixes are unique and very well requested. However, Cyrus is not just a mix tape DJ.
King Cyrus's strong point is rocking parties.  He has been blessed to be heard at countless parties, Hot 97's Summer Jam Lot party, and multiple clubs.   He was able to have some main stream artist stop at the Lot party and let him know they were enjoying his work.  Cyrus realizes he cannot change the game so he has learned to adapt with the game.  He has the ability to bring people together and change lives through music. Cyrus realizes that he may not be different from other DJ's with the music he spins, gotta play what the crowd wants, however he refuses to mimic what they show the music business to be on TV.
Goal oriented to be more than a DJ, King Cyrus is determined to be more of a public figure.  With his work with multiple organizations to push our youth,  teen parties, and more he is working on being a man that our children can look up to.  This is only his beginning.

HB ARTIST INSIDER: GHETTO REAPER

Born and raised in Bedstuy Brooklyn N.Y  raised projects called Louis Armstrong the Ladies of HB bring you into the world of GR bka Ghetto Reaper.  Currently GR resides in upstate Poughkeepsie, NY. Blessed with the talent to  make any type of song, rhyme to any type of beat, GR can be described as  very humbled,  business minded, and very easy to work with. Of course once crossed its a different story. GR found his love for Hip Hop when Biggie Smalls dropped the "Ready to Die" album. Hearing Bigg speak the truth and being able to relate to all the songs did something for GR that no other artist had done before.  Not to mention Bigg's flow and delivery is second to none in the upcoming artist's opinion. Biggie and DMX became the reason GR became apart of Hip Hop.  When Ghetto Reaper put out his first mix tape titled "The Dedication" he let his pain and hurt be heard.   The joy of hearing people saying he had a gift with music let him know that he was blessed with the ability to use his words to get people to listen. Now GR is on the grind to earn his  respect from other artist on the come up, people he grew up with, and his family.

World struggles, low paying job, parents burying there kids, dudes putting their life and freedom on the line in these streets to make something out of nothing has become GR's motivation with his music.  This could very well be his way out of the life he is use to.  It will also be a way to let those that are not seeing the struggle on their own to be able to relate. GR wants his fans to know that he is  going through the same struggles they are going through in life. He can see what they see and do what they do and survive the same way they survive in this world.  GR says that his unique sound separates him from other artist.  Ghetto Reaper has the ability to speak on any subject and make it his own.  His ability to be diverse gives him the ability to change without changing himself.

    I AM Profit

Ghetto Reaper changed the game when asked who he would like to work with in the industry.  Every time we ask a artist this question they state names like the infamous Biggie, Pac, or other great rappers.  When GR was asked who he would like to work with, he chose Justin Timberlake.  His reasoning only let us further know that he thinks big.....

"I would have to say Justin Timberlake. If i could do a track with that dude, man listen my supporter base would be through the roof.  I say supporters cause I don't call people fans, but for that man to get on a track.  It would great for my career to have Justin Timberlake feature on one my songs, it would be epic."

To holla at Ghetto Reaper for booking/interviews or just to learn more about him as a man

HB ARTIST INSIDER: JACOB PEOPLES

These days color has no impact on the rap community.   A product of rock and roll and old school hip hop Peoples is bringing something new to the music industry.  Growing up Peoples can remember his mother and father playing Ozzy Osborne and Metallica.  His whole life would change with his Uncle Daniel Peoples introducing him to hip hop.  Listening to Outkast was a huge turning point for Jacob Peoples.  Andre 3000's lyrical expertise gave him the rush that he needed.  Watching Eminem come into the music industry showed him that he too could be great.  He is definitely on his way.

Jacob Peoples is one of the few artist who is original.  He speaks only on what he knows.   The ladies of HB have had the ability to catch him in person and there is no artist that he can be compared to.  Peoples is definitely what the industry is missing with artist coming out daily with the same sounds as others already in the industry.  Although Peoples is incomparable,  his music is the type of music that the masses can relate to. A dream chaser, Peoples has had the chance to open up with many big names including,  Meek Mill, Trinidad James, Tone Trump, Los, Chris Webby, Lil Webbie, Ying Yang Twins, Cory Gunz, Snootie Wild, T Mills, Mod Sun, Dj Unk, and Riff Raff!  He recently won a spot on the KONNECTED TOUR.  This is an all expense paid tour for unsigned artist.  Presented by Charlotte's own Kevan Glover, Jacob will have the chance to perform in five states, be seen in THE KONNECTED reality tv show, and feature on the 2014 KONNECTED song.

With his unique quality music, Jacob Peoples is definitely an artist you will want to keep your eyes and ears open for.

HB ARTIST INSIDER: YOUNG DIRT

In the music industry its fair to say that the underdog is not always recognized but, they are always necessary.  Coming straight out of Reidsville, NC we bring you one of the Carolina heroes Young Dirt.  Although, Dirt has not had many mainstream accolades, along with his team GHSL (pronounced G Hustle) he is definitely pushing his way to the top.  There is no separation from Young Dirt the artist and Young Dirt the man and HB is gonna let you know why.
Dirt like many others fell in love with hip hop when it became an escape from the things going on around him in his personal life. Dirt felt like music was his only friend that totally understood and never judged him. Music taught Dirt how to maintain and helped him grow into a leader. There was no better feeling than when he started doing shows and seeing people rap along with him word for word. Knowing people can feel and identify with his pain makes the journey more worthwhile. Along with his little brother Young Hood, who is currently serving fed time, Dirt started GHSL.  Grind Hard Sleep Less had nothing to do with music though. Young Dirt and his family have always been about getting to the money, handling business and doing what's got to be done by any means. When Hood got locked up Dirt switched up the name a bit and shortened it to GHSL (pronounced G Hustle) as an acronym and as a salute to Young Hood. He was a G that hustled, and now the hustle is music.  GHSL has everything from your thug artist, female rapper, R&B singers and lots of love.  When around them you know its not a team...it's a family.  Look out for the GHSL compilation mix tape followed by Young Dirt's album!

The two time, 3 category Carolina Music Nominee is definitely one artist that understands the importance of reaching out and having support even from the "little people".  Whether it is a open mic event,  listening to your free music, or sharing and liking your links on Facebook it is a blessing.   Young Dirt said he respects the CMAs first off for being a legitimate and credible accolade in the Carolinas and beyond that for being a meeting place for artists to become familiar with the movers and shakers and even executives of the Carolina Music industry. If you can't gain from being present at an event like that you aren't cut out for the business. The year he won, Dirt said he showed up with a duffle bag full of cds in a white tee and some camo shorts and walked out with an award.
"That feeling alone helped to push me to another level of the grind just to maintain the respect and acknowledgement I felt I was being issued through the award. No one had to say good job to me much less give me an award. But I also know the level of work it took to receive the award, and if you're not campaigning in the Carolinas YOU WILL NOT WIN." ~Young Dirt
Currently Young Dirt resides in Atlanta, GA but, he frequently returns to NC to put on for his state. Atlanta artists are almost always close to a celebrity in one way or another so a lot of them have some kind of notoriety before they even start making music. The ones that don't have to have an impeccable grind to cut through the politics and make a name. Dirt realizes that to not be from ATL and still be buzzin in the streets means he is truly blessed and highly favored.  He was able to catch a lot of people by surprise with his sound and receive a lot of support early in his travels to Atlanta while word of mouth gained him a lot of momentum.
Its fair to say that Young Dirt is the next young mogul and has what it takes to be a star.  Stay tuned because he has a bright future and will not let his fans down.

HB Artist Insider: Suave Ri

Representing Salisbury and Thomasville, NC, the ladies of HB would like to present Suave Ri.  Recently we got a chance to exchange words with this 25 year old music entertainer/rapper from the 704/336 and it was nothing but, love.  He has been a frequent performer for Trippple Threat Thursdays, which our President Mz Leggz is involved in with DJ Small Wonda.  He finally took the time to let the ladies get inside of his head.  Suave began his journey with hip hop around seven or eight years old from my brothers, Jermaine, Tone, Al, & Matt.  Suave said he vividly remember times back in the day with Jermaine when we would sit around in the room or just in the house cleaning up and listen to hip hop all day. They would rap lyrics back and forth and have debates on who was the hottest artist in the rap game or who's accomplished this and who's won this and that.  Although he has been enjoying hip hop most of his life, honestly speaking he has only been apart of the game four years.  Suave said he was always the quiet dude that never said much but, was always up on the latest music.  He often found himself surrounded by rappers to the point there would be five dudes in the house free styling over instrumentals Suave would find off the internet.  He would never say anything during the sessions.  Instead he would wait until everyone left and play beats and rap over them to himself.  One day, Suave finally got the guts and joined the cipher and proved that he had the juice.

                          https://soundcloud.com/richo-b-1/best-kept-secret-by-suave

His once biggest fear of performing in front of crowds has been surpassed and he is seen frequently at different showcases letting his lyrics speak to the crowd.  Everyone has their opinion on the music industry today and Suave is no different. Suave spoke on how today sex sells more so than the  "content"  of music.  However, Suave separates himself from other artist by being a conscious rapper who recreates real lifestyles in the listeners head that they can relate to because they are living that lifestyle. A person can feel passion through your words regardless of what words you may use.  Suave wants to be able to show his soul to the fullest extent through his music. His goal is for his fans to be able to take his songs and have his music speak volumes in there life, to help them through there struggle like other artist did for him, and for listeners to be able to take the good with the bad of me because everything he says on his tracks are real regardless of right or wrong, rather you can relate to this or that track or not.  His advice for other artist, which he received from DJ's and A&R's, is to stay on the scene, get familiar with people who are watching, and always have a show mix!!!!! Never let anyone tell you no and always give 100% on the stage!

Anyone who supports me is thank you, thank you, thank you! without any of you it wouldn't be possible, its hard to get people to support and believe so for the ones that do its much love and respect this way! ~Suave

HB Artist Insider: Lady Leash

The music industry can be torture to a female in the game. Females often have to fight the image of being easy or often they are persuaded to be sexual in order to make moves. Well, Newark Delaware's Alicia Dickerson, known in the underground music world as “Lady Leash” refuses to follow the norm and will not give up. Currently residing in North Carolina, Leash has been doing music since she was in elementary school. She was a member of the chorus from the time she was in third grade until she reached ninth grade. She once dreamed of being a singer however when she wrote her first rap in 09',somewhat imitating the infamous Mary J, Lady Leash found her hidden talent. Now she writes, raps and sings.
Lady Leash is a firm believer that the messages in music today are a big part of the problems we are having with our youth. However, she she feels that its only heightened when the kids are not getting the proper love, guidance or support at home. Therefore, our youth are easily influenced and believe the negative they hear is cool. With her son as her motivation Leash is determined to make a difference with her music. She wants to tell her story while also helping fans gain knowledge, self respect, confidence, strength and realness from her tracks. She knows that she is blessed with a talent that she strives hard at achieving. She fears not succeeding.

Currently, Lady Leash is working on her mix tape “Un~Leashed” and it has her focus. You can find Leash at local shows and contest working on being heard by anyone and everyone who is willing to listen. She hopes to one day work with her favorite rapper, Meek Mill, because she feels his testimony is a lot like hers and shows her she can make it too. She would also like to reach her plateau with artist such as Yo Gotti, Rich Homie Quan, Trey Songs and the beautiful Jasmine Sullivan. When asked what she wants her fans to know, “That I am going to give ya'll what ya'll have been missing, I'm the good stuff”.

HB Artist Insider: Yung Bee Bee

Facebook, twitter and youtube have been buzzing for months with different freestyles from Florida underground artist Yung Bee Bee.  People sharing the video with friends and wondering "Who is this dude?".    HB's CEO Nena got a chance to speak with the artist while he finishes off some time to get in his head and see what his future holds. As a child  he was given the name Bee Bee and because of the age that he started rapping it followed yung.  His music follows a global approach, Bee Bee wants to speak to the world.  He says the beats tell him what to say.  Bee Bee likes to speak to his fans and have them understand his pain. He has had his share of up and downs just like the next person but, he believes we all have to keep pushing and never give up.

Yung Bee Bee - Number Line (Freestyle)

Bee Bee's music career is fairly fresh as far as getting his music out to the world but, his music videos have gone viral so fast and he thanks God for it.  He was picked to be apart of a reality show called "Kings and Queens" with rap artist Bone Crusher and the comedian Shawty.  He see's that as one of his biggest accomplishments as an artist.  This is only the beginning because this man is super talented.  From watching his youtube view grow, to having women ask him to sign her boobs, Bee Bee is thankful for all that he has accomplished.  Make sure that you stay tuned for this star in the making.
